The nearest ski area to the chalet is La Flegere, a five minute walk away, which links into Le Brevent slopes, high above Chamonix, offering numerous pistes for all abilities, and unlimited off-piste skiing. La Flegere has two very good green runs for beginners, served by chair-lifts to give unaccustomed muscles some much-needed respite.
The free ski bus, and train, also leave from here, giving guests easy access to the other ski areas within a 10 kilometre radius, including the Grands Montets, and the world-famous Vallee Blanche descent.
The Grands Montets, reached by cable car from the village of Argentiere, is a mecca for expert skiers. But Argentiere also has good valley level beginners slopes, and a range of blue and red intermediate pistes up the mountain. The skiing ranges from 1200 metres to 3300 metres and, thanks to recently installed snow-making equipment, it is a snow-sure resort, with the facility to ski back to the village all season. Argentiere is a 10-minute bus ride, or 10-minute train ride, from the chalet.
Le Tour ski area is at the sunniest, and snowiest, end of the valley. Its wide-open, motorway pistes are ideal for beginners and immediates, or just for finding your skiing legs on the first day. As well as the popular blues and reds up the hill there is a wide beginners' area at the base of the slopes with three teleskis, and a hair-raising sledging area!
For experts, le Tour offers back-country itinerary routes into Switzerland. It is a
15-minute bus ride from the chalet.
As well as the Brevent ski slopes above Chamonix, with their unparalleled view of the Mont Blanc Massif, the Vallee Blanche, and the Mont Blanc glacier range, Chamonix also has a number of valley-level skiing opportunities. The Savoy beginners' slopes, in the centre of the town, have a moving carpet for tinies not comfortable with drag lifts. The Planards ski area is ideal for beginners and intermediates, with a chair lift rising right out of the town. These ski areas are less than a five minute drive, bus ride or train ride from the chalet.
The Chamski pass (which we can arrange to have delivered to the chalet on your arrival, to avoid lengthy queuing) covers all these ski areas, as well as a day?s skiing in the neighbouring Italian resort of Courmayeur. Meanwhile a Mont Blanc pass allows you to venture even further afield. Les Houches, 10 minutes south of Chamonix Mont Blanc, offers good skiing below the tree-line on snowy days, and you can even test your ability on the Kandahar World Cup Downhill Ski Run.
Cross-country skiers can join the tracks right outside the chalet, with more than 20 kilometres of forest trails, of all grades and lengths, to suit all levels.
